Derek founded Wave Tribe as a creative expression rooted in his passion for surfing and his commitment to sustainability. Wave Tribe’s mission is to produce high quality ecological surf products that support a sustainable lifestyle.
Wave Tribe manufacturers products made out of sustainable and recycled materials, pushing the limits of contemporary design. using high grade HEMP and recycled elements in its production—a concern for the environment is at the core of Wave Tribe’s purpose.
Prior to Wave Tribe, Derek created an organic clothing company in Ventura, California, winning an award in 2005 for the most innovative new eco company. He helped launch the organic revolution back when the word green still referred to a color.
In his spare time Derek surfs and shapes surfboards—he feels that life is a laboratory for learning, creativity, and celebration.
