Derek founded Wave Tribe as a creative expression rooted in his passion for surfing and his commitment to sustainability. Wave Tribe’s mission is to produce high quality ecological products that support a sustainable lifestyle.

After thirty years of surfing, Derek started Wave Tribe In 2007 while searching for a way to bring ecological products to other surfers on the planet. Wave Tribe manufacturers products made out of sustainable and recycled materials, pushing the limits of design and using high grade HEMP and recycled materials in its production—a concern for the environment is at the core of Wave Tribe’s purpose.

Prior to Wave Tribe, Derek owned an organic clothing company in Ventura, California, winning an award in 2005 for the most innovative new eco store in the country. He helped launch the organic revolution back when the word green still referred to a color.

In his spare time Derek surfs and shapes surfboards—he feels that life is a laboratory for learning, creativity and celebration and his favorite phrase is CARPE DIEM.
